Thanksgiving Preparation

Ok so one of my most favorite holiday's is Thanksgiving. I know given how much I talk, blog, and obsess about food it is shocking...I KNOW!

My mom was sweet enough to surrender her hosting duties a few years ago. We switch off every year between Joe's family and mine. When it is his year, we go to his parents and my family goes to my aunts. When it is my year, now instead of going to my mom and dad's, they all come here. I especially love when I get to host it! My parents spend the night and we get up early watch the Thanksgiving Day Parade and cook together. Mimosas are always a good idea for breakfast and Joe starts smoking one of our turkeys. My mouth is starting to water a little :) I LOVE IT!

It is more then the food I love. I love that we are all together. It really does make me think about what I am thankful for and usually it is all the people sitting beside me at the table and the fact that we have a table full of warmth and love... not to mention some pretty delicious food :)

So I have already made my list. I have already secured my Holiday box from Klesick Family Farms (*see note below) and I am planning on having my turkey delivered here fresh from Smith Brother Farms ( www.smithbrothersfarms.com/ ) with my milk delivery next week. I will probably get a lot of dry goods and canned things at Fred Meyer, if it like last year- for every 100.00 you spend you get a free turkey which I usually put in the freezer and save for a rainy day, well actually a snowy one. My dream is of a snowy set of days where I can't go anywhere and I say "oh I'll just get this turkey defrosted" and we'll have it for breakfast lunch and dinner tomorrow:)

So back to Thanksgiving. I already have talked to my family and friends coming on Thanksgiving but I was feeling overwhelmed by "The MENU!!!" We do our Thanksgiving like most where everyone pitches in and brings things. Also we always have a melting pot group with family and friends
who don't have family around or a place to go, so they come with us. This makes for a great array of food. Everyone brings their family favorites but now we have SO MANY FAVS it's a lot to figure out. Like our one friends who usually come always brings jello, but they aren't coming this year!!! So now we have to make jello ourselves because we love it :)

I keep getting off track :) So to eliminate the "what are you bringing fiasco" I went on www.punchbowl.com/ I created a cute email invite. Added a Pot Luck list to it and emailed it to everyone. It lets you add things you need people to bring to the Pot Luck List and it gives you the option of letting guests add items they want to bring, if you want that. Look how cute mine is. I love that it let's you customize the design, fonts, envelope liner and even a postage stamp and when your guests get the email they get it as a sealed envelope, they click on it and it turns around and opens like a real invite. I hate technology but I appreciate stuff like this. They are trying to keep some cute special aspects of real invites without the actual making, addressing and sending of the invites.

Also it keeps track of who is coming and how many kids, adults, etc. It even has a mobile app in which you can keep track of who is coming from as well. Some of you with smaller gatherings may not need this. We are looking at 25-30 guests so it is very helpful.

All in all, I am ready to to get my plan on :) I will be posting my progress. I am in search of something crafty to do for my centerpiece situation. I know I will be carving pumpkins to use as vases for flowers but I also I need to figure out how I am going to seat everyone.  This is going to require some test runs in table arranging. YAY! I love this! Happy Planning!!!
