Pork Roast...what not to do :)

So if you do this meal, the only thing you should do differently is
DO NOT LEAVE IT IN YOUR CROCK POT FOR 10 HOURS!!! :) Ooops!
I heated oil in my pot, untied my pork roast and then seasoned it with salt and pepper

Once my oil was nice and heated, I separated the two pieces and got them nice and brown in the pan. As I learned from Carla Hall (ABC's The Chew) this weekend (more on that tomorrow ;)
"There's flavor in the brown!"
;)

Brown your roast(s) all over and place in the crock pot
I kind of skipped pictures for some reason here. I didn't think I did, but I did, so then I poured in apple juice and some sliced onion and chopped apple. Put the lid on and cook on low for most of the day probably more like 6-7 hours. NOT 10 HOURS!!!!

It will be falling apart at this point. Mine was falling apart all right and it wasn't horrible...But there were a couple times I looked at Joe and he looked like Clark Griswold on Christmas Vacation eating Cousin Catherine's Christmas turkey :) I served ours with A LOT of apple sauce my Mama's/Nana's Sweet and Sour cabbage and mashed potatoes. I also made blanched asparagus for the kids and salad for Joe and I.

So Sweet and Sour Cabbage is an unusual dish. I LOVE IT. You  just chop red cabbage, heat some oil in a pan with a lid, and then saute some onion until soft. Then add your cabbage and stir around, add salt, pepper, and maybe a little less then 1/4 cup of sugar for a whole head of cabbage. Then put the lid on and steam. Stir occasionally so it doesn't burn on the bottom. Then when it's nice and soft add vinegar (I used apple cider vinegar) to taste. We Hungarians love our cabbage! I am the only one who will eat it. Well I take that back, Joe will eat a little because my Nana told us that pork and cabbage brought you health and wealth, so a little cabbage won't kill him :) Like I said I LOVE IT but my kids won't touch it. It is an acquired taste. They'll like it someday.

Someone who did LOVE everything else was CAM MAN! He even was MIXING foods together! A HUGE step for a kid with sensory issue! I was SO proud of him!
He said "MOM! Go get you camera, you got to take a picture of this for your LOG"
hahaha I did not forget the B that is what he calls this  :) He cracks me up.

So! I hope your pork roast turns out better then mine. I suggest checking your roast with a meat thermometer throughout the day. That way you don't end up soaking yours in applesauce :)

My mom thinks the reason this sucked so bad was because there was not enough fat. I think she is probably right. Fat can be important. that's why I like to keep it around. I don't want to be dry and hard to stomach :)
